Implant

In general

Dental implantation is the most modern and suitable alternative to bridges and prostheses in case the patient is completely toothless or some teeth are missing.

The insertion of a dental implant is considered a surgical procedure, by which we mean the implantation of a so-called artificial root. This means that prostheses are made for places where teeth are missing (whether it is the absence of some teeth or complete toothlessness).

This prosthesis is based on an artificial titanium base, not on the natural tooth root; the implant is implanted in the jawbone. The inserted artificial root ossifies in a few months and continues to function almost entirely as a natural tooth.

Types

Adhesive implant crown

The adhesive implant crown is fixed to the superstructure with the help of a special adhesive cement. It has several advantages: it is cheaper and more aesthetic than the screwable implant crown.

It is recommended to install adhesive implant crowns if a lot of implant crowns are needed and it would be more financially difficult or it might not be feasible to use a screwable implant crown.

It is also recommended because when the crown is placed in the front region, it should be more aesthetic and  look better.

The biggest disadvantage of the adhesive implant crown over the screwable crown is that the glued crown cannot be removed later if necessary, only cut off from the implant.

In this case, it is necessary to re-prepare the crown. It may be necessary to remove the adhesive implant crown for several reasons: for aesthetic reasons, an accident occurred, the patient's bite has changed or  because of a strong bite or night grinding the prosthetic element has loosened.

Screwable implant crown

The screwable implant crown and the superstructure are attached to the implant with a passing screw. For proper stability, the screw is pulled to the correct torque with a specially designed torque key.

Its advantages include that whatever happens, the replacement can be easily removed, repaired or replaced, unlike the adhesive implant crown. As it can be removed, it provides more precise hygiene and it can also be better treated in case of  inflammation (and after treatment, the crown is simply reattached).

The adhesive implant has a slightly weaker aesthetic effect than the crown, since after screwing the crown, the hole must be covered with a filling material.

The screwable implant crown is recommended mainly for the replacement of the back teeth with the implant.

Advantages

Implants have several advantages: they provide naturalness, oral hygiene (aesthetically, in terms of chewing), improve the quality of life, do not cause problems with speech or meals and, they also provide a future-proof solution.

Perhaps the greatest advantage is that in the absence of a single tooth, it is not necessary to grind adjacent teeth. If we are talking about complete toothlessness, the patient does not have to be satisfied with the prosthesis sliding on the gums: artificial root (implant) is a practical solution that guarantees the stable fixation of prostheses and holds the crowns or bridges.

Disadvantages

While it is true that the disadvantages of implants are broadly negligible, since their insertion is a surgical procedure, therefore, like all surgeries, this can carry risks as well. The dangers of the implant can be almost completely eliminated by modern tools and procedures.

Pain and swelling may occur as a result of the procedure, but these side effects last for a few days at the most. If the pain does not disappear or intensifies after a week, or if the swelling does not disappear, the patient should contact his/her doctor as soon as possible.

Hygiene

Implantation intervention is a long-term solution to fill the patient's lack of teeth, but it is important to point out that the care of implantation prostheses is as important as performing successful surgery. Maintaining oral hygiene plays a very important role in the fact that the implants inserted serve the patient perfectly for decades to come. The implant functions as a real tooth root, which is why if the patient does not pay attention to proper oral hygiene, tartar or plaque is deposited just like natural teeth. In addition, if the implant is not properly cared for, inflammation and periodontal disease may occur, as a result of which the implant may loosen in the same way that a natural tooth root would loosen in case of improper care. Fortunately, it is easy to maintain proper oral hygiene by brushing your teeth, as well as using flossing. Further information on oral care will be provided to the patient after the procedure. However, while the patient pays attention to the proper care of the implant, he has to undergo check-ups on an annual basis.

Brands

We would like to point out that our clinic strives for maximum and high quality care. That is why we work with quality equipment, and our methods are innovative to today's expectations.

In order to achieve the perfect end result and the satisfaction of our patients, we use the products of the most respected brands worldwide: Straumann BLX and Neodent Helix Gm Compact. Both implants are market-leading brands that are premium in quality and meet aesthetic requirements. In addition, they provide a lifetime guarantee.

For more than three decades, Straumann BLX in Switzerland has been recognized by scientific and clinical experience as the world's best documented implantation solution. In terms of quality, it enhances the success of the treatment, allowing the treatment of situations previously considered impossible. The surface of the implant (SLActíve fluid) is coated with a unique substance that accelerates and stimulates the twitching of bone cells onto the implant, accelerating its ossification. It provides comfort and tranquility, and makes the health and physical appearance of the mouth comfortable, making our everyday life more livable. If the tooth implant has been successfully boned (about 95% success rate), after the special imprinting, the crown is made in the laboratory, which can be used in a similar way as the tooth.

The Swiss Neodent Helix GM Compact dental implant is an artificial titanium tooth root, extremely durable and offering a reliable solution in modern implantology.

During the dental implant procedure, it is essential for the healing period to be as short as possible – the Neodent Helix GM Compact implant allows for rapid healing and, depending on bone quality, can be immediately loaded with a temporary crown after the procedure.

Thanks to the wide range of available shapes and sizes, this type of implant can be used in almost any clinical case where a dental implant is required.

All-On-Six or All-On-Eight Implant System

An All-On-Four implant may be the right solution when all the patient's teeth need to be pulled out, or he  or she  may not have any teeth left. Although it is true that it is not an easy surgical procedure, its advantages are undeniable: only four implants are inserted (which makes the final result cheaper) and not many bones are needed for the implants to be inserted. At the same time, we are not talking about a removable denture, but about a fixed denture. The disadvantage is that they have to meet certain conditions, so that the fixed denture can be placed in the mouth immediately. Whether it is an All-On-4/6 or 8 implant system, in each case we are talking about a complex, complete prosthetic procedure where the patient can acquire much more stable and aesthetic teeth, if the condition of his or her bones allows this. Depending on the size of the jawbone, four, six or eight implants ensure the stable fixation of the entire upper or lower dentures and their complete rehabilitation. Many patients travel from abroad to our clinic specifically for this treatment.

Sinus lift, bone replacement, Geislicht bone

Bone replacement may be necessary in several cases: when more bones are needed than  naturally can be  found in the given place (e.g. before or during implantations, or when there are few bones left in the lateral part of the upper jaw (which, by the way, results in the condescension of the sinuses). In the second case, if the lost teeth in the given area are replaced by implants, the bottom of the sinus should first be raised surgically and a prosthetic bone is placed at the bottom. All this is covered with a membrane, then the implant is screwed into the upper jaw. Often, for aesthetic reasons, we supplement areas with bone replacement.

Root peak resection

In the case when a purulent tooth is not root-treatable, the only solution is root peak resection, and of course unpleasant tooth removal. Root peak resection is a surgical operation under which the end of the root of the tooth is removed from the side through a window drilled into the bone (together with the pus bag on it), thus retaining most of the root of the tooth and the crown.
